Quarter Horse owners spend $780 Million annually on horse related expenditures like feed, tack, boarding, training, trailering, utilities, office supplies, equipment, structures, land, etc. Oklahoma has nearly 200,000 Quarter Horses in the state - the second largest population in the World. Nearly 50,000 Oklahomans own a Quarter Horse - the third largest group in the world. Each year, more than 8,500 Quarter Horses in Oklahoma are foaled and registered with AQHA. 2,700 Quarter Horses started in races at Oklahoma tracks in 2007. Of those, 1,736 started at Remington Park. In 2007, Quarter Horses started in races nearly 10,400 times at Oklahoma racetracks. Nearly 40% of these starts took place at Remington Park. In 2006, nearly 2,300 Quarter Horse starters were Oklahoma-foaled making Oklahoma the second leading producer of racing Quarter Horses in the World.
Oklahoma ranks fourth in the World in racing opportunities for American Quarter Horses. In 2007, Oklahoma tracks offered 190 days of racing, nearly 1,200 races and $15.1 Million in purse money. 2003-2007 Oklahoma Racing Statistics In 2008, Oklahoma tracks will host more than 30 Graded stakes races, including five Grade 1 events. Since 1965, 55 Oklahoma bred horses have been recognized as AQHA Champions a total of 95 times, including eight that were named overall World Champion. Those World Champions included such greats as: Refrigerator (twice World Champion), See Me Do It, First Down Dash, Miss Thermolark, Easy Date, Tiny's Gay, Easy Jet, and Laico Bird.
